About my prints

All of my prints are printed at a high resolution of 300dpi - sometimes higher for larger works such as canvas prints. Printing at higher resolutions (above 72dpi) will ensure a high quality fine art Giclee reproduction from my original digital artwork files. My images are printed on top quality heavyweight archival papers, 280gsm or more, either in a semi-gloss / lustre or matt textured surface depending on the detailing in the artwork. I use light-fast pigment inks with these papers, displaying a beautiful wide colour gamut to ensure a stable archival print that should last for upwards 100 years or more provided that they are not subject to prolonged direct sunlight or damp conditions etc. I print to include a white border that will allow you to easily mount and frame the print. I will include the title of the work on the front of the print and a signature and edition number if a limited edition print. A Certificate Of Authenticity is also included if the work is a limited edition. I currently use standard UK "A" paper sizes for my prints. They are A4 - 8.27 x 11.69 inches / 210 x 297mm and A3 - 11.69 x 16.53 inches / 297 x 420mm. Please note that the print sizes refer to these dimensions. The actual image sizes will vary according to the original crop of the artwork during its creation. All print orders are sent archival protected in sturdy packaging. Larger prints to those stated are available on request.

I am currently looking into a cost-effective way of offering larger prints of A2 upwards. Going much bigger will certainly add impact especially when mounted appropriately!  In the meantime, the option to order a print larger than A3 is welcomed - just contact me for a quote and bear in mind that turnaround times will be a little longer than my standard 3-5 business days. 

Printing my work is one of the most satisfying aspects of my process. To see my work in print form is the culmination of hours of creative expression and nothing can beat the feeling of holding a traditional high quality print in the hand as opposed to viewing a screen image. However, it must be said that the printing process has two very important factors that must be borne in mind for the artist: one is the cost, it's certainly not a cheap process with the cost of paper and ink - but then quality materials are reflected in the price. Then there is the initial cost of the hardware. I use a professional Canon printer designed for photographic printing at a top quality level. And secondly, the accuracy of the colours and that is something else entirely! Different devices will all render colours differently. Whether my photos are shot with a digital camera or a smartphone. The device used to view the photo and the resulting artwork. The software used to display the works in progress and create the print. So the question must be asked: what are the true colours for any given artwork? What I see on my screen will look spectacular back-lit by a crisp white LED source - I use Mac OS and the colour rendition looks fabulous. But switch to an older desktop whether that be a Mac or Windows computer, and things will look a bit different, especially with an older LCD source. Phones will most likely display colours a bit differently as well. So there are many factors that contribute to how you see colours displayed. This can make it challenging for the final printed version. Colour science is a complex thing, but that is another story beyond the scope of this blog! I can confidently say that the print you will receive will be as accurate as my software and your device will allow and I find that the colour matching from computer to my printer is of a very high standard. However, I am currently about to install a special profile (ICC profile) that matches the paper I use to my set-up so the colour accuracy in print to that on my screen should be even better!
