Kami - Nature Spirit
Kami - Nature Spirit harks back to the days when Buddhism and eastern philosophy / wisdom was at the forefront of my mind. When I started my art career in 2011, my inspiration was Buddhism and many of my works back then featured images of Buddha. Fast forward to 2018 and I revisited my "Buddha Years" - as I affectionately call it - creating this piece. A one-off for the time and unlike my work of that time.
In Japanese Shinto religion, Kami is a deity, spirit, divinity or a mythological entity that inhabits nature, the landscape and all natural forms. They can also take on the form of venerated dead people whose spirits inhabit nature. They are not separate from nature but in essence are of nature. This piece is inspired by that.
This work was also chosen to illustrate a CD release called "Zen" by Dartmoor musician Neil H. The image can be seen on the front and back covers and printed on the disc itself.
